The institute contains many R & D institutions, to name a few, metal material room, a cermets material room, a nonmetallic material room, a luminescent material room, and a pilot test base. The institute has undertaken many key scientific and technological projects offered by national ministries and Jiangsu Province, mainly focusing on the development of rare earth functional materials. In recent years, the institute has engaged mainly in the research and development of rare earth luminescent materials, thermal electron emission materials, and other new technologies and applications. The combustion synthesis technology, listed on the national "863" Project twice, has gained great achievements in both R&D and achievements transfer.
