Both Nanjing University of Chemical Technology and Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering had long been the cradles of education. They both were well-known in the country with a long history and brilliant university operation achievements. In the past, leaders and faculty and staff at both of these two institutions strived hard to educate a large number of personnel of applied engineering, who were in urgent need for the economic construction of the province as well as the whole country, and they achieved great successes in both teaching and research. The two institutions were developing at an accelerated speed with outstanding spiritual outlook after coming under the leadership of Jiangsu Provincial Government. The merger is of great significance. NJUT will become one of the key universities of engineering in Jiangsu Province, with complete disciplines, optimized structures, excellent teaching and research quality, and comprehensive strength.
