In the afternoon of July 20th, the academician of Chinese Academy of Science, Huang Wei was introduced on the campus as the new NanjingTech president in a meeting attended by all the university leaders, professors and directors of offices. The decision of the appointment was announced by a representative of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee. Huang Wei was also appointed as the deputy secretary of the NanjingTech Committee of CPC and the member of the NJUT standing Committee of CPC. While Prof. Ouyang Pingkai will no longer take the post of president and relative posts due to his senior age.
Prof. Ouyang Pingkai, the former president, expressed his resolute support for the decision and his heartfelt thanks to the correct leadership of the provincial government. He reviewed the development and achievements made by NanjingTech over the past decades, and extended his heartfelt thanks to all the members of the leadership, all the teachers, staff members and students for their cooperation and support. Prof. Ouyang Pingkai also extended his warm welcome and sincere congratulation to President Huang Wei and he believed that Huang’s high academic achievements, great professional capacity and fine political accomplishment will be great contributions to the success of NanjingTech. Ouyang said that he will keep on following the development of NanjingTech and he wished a brighter future for NanjingTech in the end of his speech.
The newly-appointed President Huang expressed his thankfulness to the Provincial Committee for their concerning, and his thankfulness to all the teachers, staff members and students for their trust and support. He believed that this is not only a great chance for him to serve and dedicate to NanjingTech, but also a valuable opportunity for him to devote himself to serving the motherland. President Huang considered it a great responsibility and he was confident in fulfilling the great mission. On the one hand, Huang spoke highly of NanjingTech’s advanced educational philosophy and brilliant achievements. On the other hand, he also pointed out that the next few years will be a crucial period for the university to achieve leapfrog development, and also a golden period for all of us to achieve successful careers. In light of this, President Huang put forwarded ‘five must’ as follows: firstly, we must uphold the glorious history and continue to develop; secondly, we must work together with all teachers, staffs and students to create a harmonious environment; thirdly, we must be working hard for the interests of the public; fourthly, we must forge ahead courageously with innovation; fifthly, we must be confident in achieving a great success. In the end of his speech, President Huang said passionately that the individual term of service is finite, while the great cause of NanjingTech is infinite. He promised that he would devote himself entirely to the development of NanjingTech with his greatest sincerity for a brighter future.
