On October 24th, the 2012 International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology was held on the Jiangpu Campus of NJUT. The symposium was held in Nanjing for the first time and was the seventh symposium since the year of 2000.
The symposium invited about 140 attendees from more than ten countries. Among the attendees, there are many famous scientists in the field of safety science and technology, including Prof. Hugh.J.McSpadde，Prof. Ronald.Willey，Prof. Gi Heung Choi，Prof. Ahmed Mebarki，Prof. Jan Berghmans，Prof. Wieslaw Tarelko，Prof. Hiroshi Koseki and Prof. FAN Weicheng, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
President Huang Wei, member of Chinese Academy of Science and Chancellor Wang Deming presented the opening ceremony of the symposium. The ceremony was mastered by Prof. Jiang Juncheng, vice president of NJUT. President Huang Wei gave a welcoming address at the beginning of the ceremony. He extended his welcome to all the attendees from abroad and home. He made an introduction of NJUT and the discipline of safety science of NJUT, and in the end of his speech, he wished a successful symposium held at NJUT.
After the ceremony, 8 leading scientists in the related field gave their invited presentations to all the other attendees and teachers and students. 47 branch symposiums were held on the next days and topics including safety theories, public safety, fire safety, transportation safety, safety management, occupational safety and health, hazardous materials safety, etc.
The successful international symposium held at NJUT will not only enhance the cooperations and relations with universities and institutions all around the world, but also push forward the development of the discipline of safety science and technology at NJUT as well as in the world.
