A delegation of University of St Andrews, the oldest university in Scotland, led by its Vice Principal (Research) Prof. Derek Woollins paid a special visit on its fact-finding mission to Nanjing Tech University on November 14th. They were met by Vice President Prof. Jiang Juncheng and directors or deans from Department of Science and Research, Graduate School, Office of International Relations and Institute of Advanced Materials for a meeting to explore collaborations between two universities.
During the meeting, Vice President Prof. Jiang Juncheng first extended his warmest welcome to St Andrews delegation on behalf of Nanjing Tech University. He pointed out that St Andrews was one of the oldest universities in the world which had much expertise in fields like chemistry, physics and Cellular and Molecular Biology. Prof. Huang Wei, Academician of CAS and President of NanjingTech spoke highly of St Andrews during his February visit this year to Fife and he anticipated close collaborations with St Andrews in talent cultivation and scientific research. The visit of St Andrews delegation would be a very good opportunity for further communication between two universities. Prof. Jiang Juncheng also introduced the history and latest development of NanjingTech and NanjingTech's cooperation with other British universities. He anticipated diverse and tangible collaborations between two universities in teacher and student exchange, joint educational programs and establishment of joint research center.
Vice President Prof. Jiang Juncheng's remarks were positively responded by St Andrews' Vice Principal Prof. Derek Woollins who expressed his gratitude for NanjingTech's warm reception and admiration of NanjingTech’s latest development. He made a brief introduction of St Andrews and believed that the Joint Ph.D Program would be the best starting point of inter-university cooperation as well as an important means of research collaboration. He would help to promote the all-round cooperation between two universities. Both sides also had in-depth discussion on teacher and student exchange, joint educational programs and establishment of joint research center and had reached much consensus.
