NanjingTech delegation headed by Academician and President Huang Wei visited University of Sydney, Monash University and University of Adelaide in Australia on invitation from November 27th to December 2nd. During the visit, NanjingTech delegation had extensive discussions with Australian universities on philosophy of university governance as well as research collaborations, talent recruitment and joint educational programs and reached consensus on many major issues.
In University of Sydney, President Huang Wei introduced the history and the latest development of NanjingTech to Prof. Archie Johnston, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies and the great developmental opportunities NanjingTech has since it became one of the first batch of 14 "2011 Plan" universities. He hoped that the cooperation with University of Sydney would promote the development of NanjingTech's Information Technologies. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in staff exchange and research collaborations.
In Melbourne, President Huang had discussions on how to build a globalized university with Prof Abid Khan, Deputy Vice Chancellor (International Engagement) of Monash University. As pointed out by President Huang, NanjingTech is on its way to build a "Comprehensive, Research-Oriented and Globalized University" and cooperation with top-notch overseas universities is very important to realize the strategic goal. He hoped that his visit could help to promote the understanding and pragmatic cooperation between two universities. Prof Abid Khan was in full agreement with President Huang's development strategy and philosophy of university governance. It was through globalization that Monash University achieved the leaping development in a relatively short period of time. Globalization has become the priority of development for higher education of different countries and globalization is one of the most important factors that can influence and reshape institutions of higher learning in the new era. NanjingTech has made remarkable achievements owing to its outstanding top-level design. Prof Abid Khan believed that under the right leadership, NanjingTech would become a famous university internationally through persistent efforts.
In University of Adelaide, President Huang introduced NanjingTech's historical development, key disciplines and globalization strategy to Prof. Robert Saint, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research Strategy) and his colleagues. Mr. Patricia Anderson, Manager of International Student Center of University of Adelaide said he would recommend Nanjing Tech University to Adelaide graduates and he hoped that two universities could carry out tangible cooperation in exchange of top-level talents. NanjingTech delegation also had fruitful discussions with Prof. Peter Ashman, Head of School of Chemical Engineering on research collaborations and "3+1" programs.
President Huang's visit to three top Australian universities expanded the channels of NanjingTech's global cooperation and would be great incentive to promote NanjingTech's scientific research and talent cultivation.
