On December 18, 2021, the Fifth China-ASEAN Youth Forum jointly organized by China-ASEAN Center,Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and Nanjing Tech University was heldin Jiangpu Campus, Nanjing Tech University and Yangtze River International Conference Center. With the theme of “Co-Responsibility·Co-Creation·Co-Benefit”, the forum was attended both online and offline by leaders of the organizations, Embassies of ASEAN countries to China, ASEAN student and teacher delegates from 19 universities in Jiangsu Province. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Niu Shengjie, Nanjing Tech Vice President.
At the opening ceremony, Li Yaying, Deputy Director of the Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, Natthira Krasaesarn, Minister Counselor of Embassy of Royal Thai to China, Yaya Sutarya, Education and Culture Attachéof Embassy of Indonesia to China, Phoxay Thepvilayvong, Education and Culture Counselor of Embassy of Lao PDR to China, Hoang Mai Dien, First Secretary of Embassy of Vietnam to China, Du Kewei, Director of the Center for Humanities Communication of China Ministry of Education, Huang Xiqiang, DG-level Counsel of Jiangsu Office of International Affairs , and Feng Dasheng, Deputy DG-level Counsel of Jiangsu Education Department delivered speeches respectively, introducing the foundation of Jiangsu-ASEAN education cooperation and reaffirming the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.
Prof.Qiao Xu, Nanjing Tech President, delivered a speech reviewing the international cooperation of Nanjing Tech University and the achievements of cooperation with ASEAN partners in high-quality talent training, high-level scientific research and high-efficient openness and cooperation. Prof. Qiao said that Nanjing Tech will give full play to the unique advantages of “the Entrepreneurial University”, and coordinate and integrate with ASEAN in terms of education chain, talent chain, industry chain and innovation chain, so as to contribute to the long-term development of China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Nanjing Tech China-ASEAN Center for Chemical Engineering Education and Communication was inaugurated by Prof. Qiao and DG-level Counsel Feng Dasheng.
At the forum, ASEAN students studying in Jiangsu shared their life in China under the epidemic, described their learning experience and gains, and expressed their strong willingness to work together to share the innovation results, promote exchanges, and shoulder the responsibility of development. After the forum, ASEAN student delegates visited Nanjing International Friendship Gallery.
Conference for Jiangsu-ASEAN Higher Education Cooperation was chaired by He Xingchu, Director of the International Cooperation and Communication Division of Jiangsu Education Department in the afternoon. Prof. Niu Shengjie, Nanjing Tech Vice President,Prof. Jiang Zhihong, Vice President of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology,Prof. Liu Qiaoquan, Vice President of Yangzhou University and other representatives of nine universities in Jiangsu Province conducted in-depth discussions with Embassies of ASEAN countries to China on the present status of education cooperation and future demands between two sides.Director of the International Cooperation and Communication Division He Xingchu said that Jiangsu will thoroughly implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s speech at the commemorative summit, that is, actively serving the national strategies, actively innovating international exchange and communication methods, promoting the opening up of various types of education at all levels so as to form Jiangsu-ASEAN education alliance and create a new model for educational cooperation with the core of the development of substance in higher education.
The China-ASEAN Youth Forum is a youth exchange project of the China-ASEAN Center and one of theimportant parts of the “Jiangsu-ASEAN Exchange Week”. The successful convening of the forum will help promote universities’ international cooperation brand and improve the training of international students, and become another active response to the Belt and Road Initiative.
