Conjugated Polymers for Next Generation Electronics: Applications in Photovoltaics and Beyond
Abstract:Conjugated polymers offer unique properties that are not made possible by conventional semiconductors,for example, light-weight, low-cost and flexible. Since the discovery of the conjugated polymer called polyacetylene in the 1970s,several conjugated polymers have been synthesized and explored the possibilities in various applications. Although the initial intention of conjugated polymers is for plastic metals, they are also applied in many other applications such as solar cells, LEDs, thin film transistors and sensors. In this talk, I will present our recent work in conjugated polymers for applications in organic solar cell, perovskite solar cell, sterilisable medical device, electronic skin and thermoelectric generator.
Biography:Aung KoKoKyaw is an Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, China. He received both B.Eng. and PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2007 and 2012, respectively. From 2012 to 2014, he worked at the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Prof Alan Heeger at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) as a post-doctoral researcher. While working at UCSB, he also joined Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Germany as a visiting researcher. Then, he worked as a Scientist at Institute of Materials Research and Engineering of A*STAR, Singapore from 2014 to 2017. He has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, four book chapters and filed five patents in the research area of organic/molecular materials and devices. He has citation more than 3400 and H-index 25. He is also a recipient of 1000 Young Talents Program of China, A*STAR International fellowship and Green Talents awarded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
