Main results
A new trend of solid state chemistry has been developed, i.e., synthesis of crystalline photochromic systems with different types of photochemical transformations, including essentially new ones, and controlling of properties of these systems via their molecular structure and molecules packing.
Structural features of photo- and thermochromic crystals of prototropic organic compounds with intramolecular proton transfer have been studied. Structural factors responsible forphoto- and thermochromic properties of such crystals have been found out, this providing a possibility to predict crystal structure and properties of new compounds of this class.
The concept of crystal chemical engineering of photochromic systems with intermolecular proton transfer has been suggested and successfully realized for the first time.
Structural factors affecting photochemical properties of spiropyrans and spirooxazines have been found out. Structural ways for controlling photochromic properties of these commercially used compounds have been suggested.
Principles of molecules crystal packing in photochromic crystals have been formulated, which provides multiple reversible photochromic transformations in crystals, high compactness of information recording, with no need for special working media.
New polyfunctional compounds combining different structural fragments in a crystal lattice, which determine photochromic, electric and magnetic properties, have been synthesized and investigated.
Methods for synthesis of iron nitrosyl complexes with sulfur-containing heterocyclic ligands have been developed. The latter ones are structural analogs of nitrosyl [Fe, S] active sites of non-heme proteins, a basic bio-reservoir of NO molecules in organism. The structure, kinetics of fixation and NO release, mutual transformations of iron complexes have been studied, among them of neutral mono-nuclear and bi-nuclear paramagnetic complexes of so called “g=2.03” family, which were first obtainedin vitro. The obtained results provided understanding of the mechanism of NO fixation by Fe complexesin vivo, and can be the basis for development of the ways for synthesis of new efficient polyfunctional medicines.
