In the evening of September 12th, international students celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival by singing Chinese ancient poetry and eating mooncakes. The whole activity was organized by the College of Overseas Education.
The scene was surrounded by mild and beautiful voices of the students and instruments. Students from over ten countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia and Bangladesh, sat around in a circle and listened to the teachers about the origin and stories of the festival. They were eating mooncakes while singing classical Chinese poetry.
Ms. QIAN Ying, WANG Juanjuan and BAI Weizhen, teachers of Chinese language, had elaborately designed the teaching plan for this evening. They had collected a lot of poetry about the moon and the theme of reunion and explained the meaning and connotation so that the students would understand and enjoy the beauty and charm of the poetry well.
"明月几时有,把酒问青天……" Felicia from Indonesia sangWater Melodywritten by SU Shi, a famous poetry, with fluent Chinese. Hamzakahiyeh from Ghana is a student of 2019. It is the first time for him to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival in China. He said that he likes Chinese culture and the delicious mooncake and he will bring some to his families when returning home.
"As the bright moon shines over the sea, from far away you share this moment with me." The celebration has showed the charm of traditional Chinese culture, impressed the international students a lot and will inspire their initiative of learning in the future.
