College of Transportation Engineering was established in August 2010, with Department of Geological Engineering, Department of Traffic Engineering, Department of Underground Engineering, Department of Rail Transitand Teaching & Experiment Center. There are 4 undergraduate majors, i.e. Geological Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Urban Underground Space Engineering and Rail Transit Engineering. Among them, Geological Engineering developed from Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology (polytechnic school) that was established in 1953. It was approved as a Brand Major in Jiangsu Province in 2006 and a Key Professional Major in Jiangsu Province in 2012. In December 2020, Geological Engineering passed On-site Investigation of Engineering Education Professional Certification. Traffic Engineering developed from Civil Engineering (Traffic & Civil Engineering) which was established in 1999. Established in 2002, Traffic Engineering passed Engineering Education Professional Certification in 2018, and became a Brand Major in Jiangsu Province in 2019 and a National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Site in 2020. Urban Underground Space Engineering developed from Architectural Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) that was established in 1995. Established in 2007, it was approved as a Key Professional Major in Jiangsu Province in 2012 and a National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Site in 2020. Rail Transit Engineering developed from Traffic Engineering (Rail Transit) which was established in 2011, and it was established in 2018.

College of Transportation Engineering covers 3 First-Level Disciplines (i.e. Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Geological Resources and Geological Engineering), and owns1 Second-Level Disciplinewith the Qualification for Granting Doctoral Degree (i.e.Geotechnical Engineering), 1 Second-Level Discipline with the Qualification for Granting Master Degree (i.e.Geological Engineering), and 1 Discipline with the Qualification for Granting Professional Master Degree (i.e.Transportation Engineering).In particular,Geotechnical Engineering is listed in Jiangsu Province Key Disciplines (2006), and Geotechnical Engineering Discipline Echelon is rated as Jiangsu Province Excellent Discipline Echelon. With other colleges, College of Transportation Engineering shares 1 Postdoctoral Research Mobile Station (i.e. Civil Engineering), 1 First-Level Disciplinewith the Qualification for Granting Doctoral Degree and Master Degree (i.e.Civil Engineering), 1Disciplinewith the Qualification for Granting Professional Master Degree(2 Second-Level disciplineswith the Qualification for Grantingthe Doctoral and Master’s degree, i.e.Bridge and Tunnel Engineering and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection Engineering), 1Disciplinewith the Qualification for Granting Professional Master Degree (i.e.Civil and Water Engineering), and 1Disciplinewith the Qualification for Granting Professional Master Degree (i.e.Resources and Environment Engineering).In 2018, the college obtained theQualification for Granting Doctoral and Master Degree for the interdisciplinary of Smart City and Intelligent Transportation (co-construction). The college has formed a complete talent-cultivation system for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students. Now there are more than 1,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 300 full-time postgraduate and doctoral students.

Presently, the college has 88 teaching staff, including 70 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 21 professors (researchers) and 20 associate professors. 85% of teachers hold doctoral degrees, and more than 58% young teachers are 40 or under 40 years old. A teaching team mainly comprises young and middle-aged teachers and embodies innovative and pioneering spirit takes shape. The college has 18 National Registered Engineers in Civil Engineering, 1 National Licensed Registered Geophysics Engineer, 1 National Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, 1 National Excellent Scientific and Technological Worker, 1 Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, 1 talent of “100 Talents Program” of China Earthquake Administration, 1 Famous Teacher in Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province, and 1 winner of Jiangsu Province May 1st Labor Medal. In recent years, the college has cultivated a batch of excellent young and middle-aged teachers. There are 4 teachers listed in “333 High-Level Talents Training Project” in Jiangsu Province, 5 listed inYoung and Middle-Aged Academic Leading Talentsof Young Teachers Training Project in Jiangsu Province, 6 listed in Outstanding Young Backbone Teachers and 6 listed inJiangsu Province “Six Talents Peaks” Training Program. Additionally, in line with Flexible Talent Introduction Policy, the college invites many celebrated scholars as strategic scientists and part-time professors, including Zhai Wanming, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Xie Lili, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; and Ma Wei, academician of Russian Academy of Engineering.

Since 2003, the college has undertaken and participated in more than 70 national scientific research projects, including the National “973” Program, National Science and Technology Supporting Program, National Natural Science Foundation, Social Welfare Research Special Project and Industrial Scientific Research Special Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, The Second Batch Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Comprehensive Scientific Investigation Project, Western Transportation Construction Science and Technology Project of the Ministry of Transport,andResearch Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. It has also won 18 national and provincial & ministerial science and technology awards, including 2 Second Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and 4 First Prizes of Provincial & Ministerial Scientific and Technological Awards.

The college has 4 provincial-level discipline platforms and 7 university-level discipline platforms. In the former, there are Jiangsu Province Urban Underground Traffic Engineering Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center, Jiangsu Province Civil Engineering Earthquake Prevention Technology Research Center, Jiangsu Province Key Laboratory of Civil Engineering and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Jiangsu Province Civil Engineering Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center (co-constructed with College of Civil Engineering). In the latter, there areTransportation Infrastructure Safety Service Guarantee Technology Engineering Research Center, Geotechnical Engineering Research Institute, Urban Underground Space Engineering Research Center, Road Engineering Research Institute, Underground Transportation Engineering Advanced Construction Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, Rail Transit and Bridge & Tunnel Research Center, and Economic Zone on the West Side of the Strait Engineering Research Center. Advanced teaching & experiment equipment and scientific research instrumentprovide favorable condition for teaching & experiment and scientific research.

The college takes cultivating high-level talents with all-around quality as the fundamental goal of teaching, and makes fruitful achievements in talent training and curriculum construction. In the college, the employment rate of graduates comes out top in Nanjing Tech University. For two successive years, the college has been rewarded the honor of Advanced Team of Employment Work in Nanjing Tech University.
